Virtually every coupe I've ever seen is dented on the top rear end of
the fuselage cone. This is not done by aliens or any other such
thing.
It is overzealous and under-informed people pushing down on the tail
to
move or turn the plane, or to just get the nose wheel off the ground.
The correct method to lower the tail is to push down on the two bolt
heads that on hold the horizontal stabilizer. A coupe should really
be
marked "no push" in the bendable area, and marked "push down here"
near
the bolt heads. Don't worry about the wrinkles, they are a sign that
the plane has been used. It's part of the patina.

Hi
I disagree with the cause of the above stated reason for the
wrinkles,
even tho that is the commonly excepted reason for said wrinkles. I
have owned
my Alon since 1987 and am the only one that flys or moves it and have
never
pushed on the tail cone. When I first purchased this plane it was low
time
and did not have any wrinkles. Over the years I have watched the area
and the
wrinkles as they show up.
I have talked to other Alon-Ercoupe owners, when I saw wrinkles, about
this
and all state they have not pushed on the tail cone. It seems to me
that the
wrinkles are more prevalent and worse on the Alons.
I have wondered if the wrinkles are caused by the twisting motion
of the
tail feathers when in flight?? While flying if one watches the
horizontal
stabilizer and vertical stabilizer they seem to be oscillating back
and
forth!!
