I'm painting my wings right now and then applying the British red,
white, and blue rondels. What I used is vinyl, made up by a sign shop,
one layer over another. With some warming with a heat lamp, they went
over the rivets on the fuselage with only a little trouble. I'll know
how it works on the humps and bumps on the wing within a week. If
you're using a decal that isn't vinyl, it most likely isn't very
stretchy over bumps. It may sound weird, but if you can't get them
smooth over the fabric screws, etc. you could cut (razor) out holes for
the bumps and paint them with some enamel of the right colour. As they
say, from 3,000 feet, they'll never notice.
