----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Talking about wings and stuff.
Yesterday I did something interesting.
I found a tie down starp from an airline and attached one end to the tie down
ring on the tail of my coupe and the other to a hook in the concrete. I
pulled down the tail until it was almost touching the ground and this allowed
the nosewhhel strut to extend completely.
I still have the original fairing on my nosewheel, it is a V shaped failing
that is attached to the scissor hinge on the strut. When the strut is fully
extended this fairing closes the gap encasing the scissor hinge into a neat
package. The front of the package is the round strut and the back is the V
shaped fairing which works like a rudder to help steer the plane in turns as
it is also connected to the yokes.
I just stood there smiling and thinking how smart Fred Weik was and also,
looking at my plane in this position, how awful a coupe would look if it was
a taildragger.
