Steven, I did not see anyone answer your question on spars. The
spar is a four part assembly. One each, top cap, web and lower cap. The
caps
are molded or extrusions. The web is flat aluminum stock. .060 or is it
.090. As, I recall it is .060. Which ever.
The caps are roughly T shaped with added stiffeners. Mounted
top
and bottom by rivets to form a I beam. The forth part is the tip and is
stamped aluminum flat stock to form a tapered end. It is riveted to the I
beam spar. (On the older Coupe there is an AD or Service Bulletin to
change
the rivets)
And I would say for all who want to know more about Ercoupe
family airplanes. Call Aircraft Spruce and get their Catalog. There is
much
info on Aluminum and how extrusions are made in the front. A good book to
have around. And good people to work with. Stores are in California and

bending, Alloy etc. Working with Plexiglas. Wood composites. $5.00 refund

The Forney book it not detailed on the beam assembly. Mooney
calls them Cap strips. Univair calls them Wing spar cap strips.210300-L
00,301-L 00 and the same number but with R for right side in place of the
L
for left side. Top bottom all the 415's thur M10

I have been following the discussion of corrosion
on the rear hinge and spar caps very closely.
My forney has had extensive work done on the wings,
and I while I have not removed the hinge, I have
been able to inspect the fittings fairly thoroughly.
(I also have the advantage of having a slightly newer
coup which has been living in the dry prairies its
entire life)
My one question pertains to the discussion of
"spar caps". I have looked through my parts manual
and can't find any mention of them. But then the manual
calls the "spars"..."beams".
Can someone elaborate and also suggest what inspection
procedures to use for keeping on top of this problem.
