Hi, After searching high and low, I've finally bought a Coupe!!!! Hooray! It seems to be a real nice 415C w/85 hp. However.... There are some glitches that I need all your help on. First, there seemed to be a weld of some type over the right wing tank. After the annual which I attended and went over the airplane very thoroughly with the AI, I found that the tanks were bone dry and and so I filled them -- took possession of my plane and was pretty happy. then I found that this "weld" was really just some type of putty compound which was leaking fuel after filling the tanks. The former owner advised me to keep the tanks down a bit to keep fuel from expanding and leaking out the fuel vent. I thought it was experieince talking - now I'm sure he knew about it. So I have a leaking right wing tank. Any advise on what this is going to take to get fixed? Do I need to take out the tank and is that a complicated procedure which will run up the bucks? Second, I assisted in the owner assisted annual. I tightened down the Dzu's on the right cowl - and the former owner tightened down the left cowl. (My wife assisted the day before in removing the cowling, as I couldn't make it) I did a preflight and the cowl was cinched tight. After I landed -- I found that the forward Dzu fastener had come loose and the cowl bent backwards in flight and put two 4 cracks in the lower forward corner. Checking the dzu, it was badly bent and stretched apart. Apparently, it vibrated loose in flight. My wife advised that when she was unfastening it, it kept turning and wouldn't release. In talking to the former owner, his nervousness tells me that he knew that this was defective. Since he did the cowl removal -- the AI missed this. I'm going to have to get this fixed, but now I'm questioning other things about the coupe as I feel I can't trust what was told me. Question - He told me that the smell of gas in the cockpit is from the primer which seeps a bit every now and then. Is this normal -- it seems there is quite a strong gas smell in the cockpit. Also, the rubber gasket/seal in the lower windshield vibrates and flutters when I'm flying, is this normal? How do I secure it? I'm a bit dismayed about the things that happened, but I still think that when I get things right, I'll have a great Coupe. Any advice on how to rectify these problems would be appreciated.
