I've been curious about this, too.  The EAA website lists the 415-C as one

of the classic aircraft that would be usable under the sport pilot 
regulations, without elaborating on how they arrived at this conclusion. 
 Is it possible that one could take a 'coupe experimental via a 337 with a

slightly reduced gross?
