----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]----Hi Everyone,
I'm no good at putting letters together, But I agree that we should do whatever we can to try and get the Ercoupe included in this "Sprotsman" category.
Stop and think for a minute.......You go in for your physical tomorrow and your doctor says, "Sorry, you don't pass and you will never be able to overcome this minor technicality, so you will never be able to regain your medical and fly again in the future".
What's your first though? Is he wrong? No, probably not. Now the next thought is what can I do, I don't want to give up the thing I love most of all. THERE MUST BE A WAY to still fly my beloved 'coupe'.
Okay, here's what I'll do......I'll get a 'Sportsman' license, swallow my pride that I no longer have a PPL and head for the airport and FLY MY COUPE!!!
To me, this sounds to good to be true. To continue flying after losing the medical? Hmmm, maybe it will be possible after all. I don't want to every have to sell my coupe and resort to flying a glorified go-kart with a wing above my head instead of below me. I want to fly my coupe!
I agree with the letter below from Jim Palmer. If someone out there is good at putting letters together and feels as I (and hopefully many others) do. GO FOR IT!!! And add my name to the list of those in favor of ammending the category to include Ercoupes.
If necessary, I'd even remove one fuel tank to get under the weight limitation. Or even the battery and starter and go back to hand propping if that would mean I could still fly my coupe.(But I'd improve the parking brake first!) (Inside joke.)
As for contacting the interested coupers who are not on the net, Coupe Capers would be one way and posting an article in Aircraft magazines, the Flyer, etc. Letters to the Editor is a free section of most publications, and is usually the one section that is read the most by other pilots. And if, in fact, the EAA has already listed us on their website (I haven't checked it out yet) then let's get them to push for us to be included. AOPA and EAA pulling together could swing a lot of weight!
Okay, that's my two cents worth, so what's the next step and who is going to start the ball rolling? Any other ideas or comments?

I agree. If anyone has some thoughts on this it sure would be a
good idea to get started on the planing now. Anyone good at
putting together letters? Maybe putting together a list of interested
owners would be a good idea? How do we contact the owners that
are not on the list?I have stated here before that my personal opinion is it would
be good for the Coupe if it would be included. I just don't
know the best way to go about it during the comment period.Jim Palmer
