When I crashed my 415D in Februatry 2000 in San Bernardino the fire Dept
and
police told me that if it wasn't moved they would not be responsible. It
was
in an open field near the worst part of town next to some railroad tracks
and
an area frequented by transients. Since I wasn't injured but the plane
was
pretty much destroyed I decided to move it to preserve the remains.

I took the wings off and had the fuselage put on a tow truck flatbed that
evening and put the tail feathers and wings under it. I followed it to
the
impound yard in a friends pickup and watched them unload it. The yard was

under videotaped surveillence and secured.

The NTSB called me the next day and started reading me the riot act. I
told
them I notified the FAA in Riverside of the accident and that 4 policemen
with guns and 4 firemen told me to get it out of there or it would be a
wet
spot on the ground by morning. I talked to FAA again the next day and
met
them at the impound yard. They filled out some paper work and checked the

wings for corrosion although they were still firmly attached until after I

was on the ground. He checked the motor and found gas in the gascolator
and
oil in the sump. He told me it swallowed a valve and somehow destroyed
the
cam(not a mechanic). 11 months later I received a letter and
questionaire
from NTSB asking for a accident report that wanted primarily to know what
happened. It was 12 pages long and the last 10 pages were asking how
passenger 2 thru 10 exited the aircraft after the crash.
