Coupers: I had not really thought much about the Coupe's speed until this week. I had to ferry a J-3 Cub from Mequon (Just north of Milwaukee) WI to Frostproof, FL. It is about 1075 miles, just a little longer than the trip from Frostproof to Terrell, TX. When I started south on July 4th, I had good tailwinds, and was making 100 mph ground speed. However, that didn't last long. The trip took two long days, a total of 16.4 flight hours, 88 gallons of fuel and 6 quarts of oil. When I made the trip to Terrell in the '45 Coupe, I made the round trip, including a 180 degree turn and retreat 30 miles due to the CB over Terrell, in less than 20 hours. Our Coupes are great cross country machines compared to the J-3! And there is no comparison for comfort. The Coupe wins hands down.
