Larry, I think Lynn is incorrect. You do need an anti-collision light but you do not need two of them on top and bottom and they do not have to meet the same visibility/location requirements of newer aircrft. I put a single strobe in the belly of the Astrocoupe when I bought it and that is legal for night flight but it would not be if the airplane were built after 1971.
