What you say about your carb is quite interesting. When you start
your engine cold you must use the primer, I assume. If your carb seems
to be too lean, maybe after half an hour it needs to be primed again. On
the other hand, it may be that for some reason, as it sits it floods
itself. If this is the case, you should try starting it with full open
throttle. This allows more air in to flush out the excess gas. Just be
ready to back off on the throttle when it starts. If you find it is
flooding, you have a float that's too high, or a small crack or leak
somewhere. Another thing that may be giving you trouble is the lean
mixture discs not mating properly. Make sure you haven't lost the spring
that goes on top of the top disc. Unless you have a cracked carb body or
such, I see no need for a new carb. There is a problem, you just have to
find it. Try your lean mixture at static full throttle and see what
happens. Another thing to look for is that the main discharge nozzle is
not cracked. that's the one that is sort of like a mushroom with holes
around the top, and is right in the venturi area. Basically it sounds
like you have a too lean or too rich situation, you just need to know
which it is and go from there. I'd be very interested to know how you
make out as I have had all kinds of fun with my carb but think I finally
got it sorted out. Good luck.
