Folks I heard this today at the airport from a cargo Pilot,
I do not know if it is true but with the events of late would not
count
it out. Repeat, I got this 3rd hand so don't know if it is true, anyone in
the area mentioned may be able to substantiate it. This is what I was
told;
A Piper Cherokee took off from St Lewis this morning and had filed an
IFR Flight plan as directed. During the flight to Colorado, ( Destination
not specified), the transponder went intermittent. The pilot was in
contact
with ATC and they were tracking him. Several minutes after the transponder
went intermittent he was joined by 2 fighter aircraft, ( F-15 or 16's ).
They continually "Buzzed" him even though he was in contact with ATC. They
almost caused the plane to crash from the wake turbulence. He was forced
down at an airport in Oklahoma where the local Authorities arrived and
almost arrested him. The only way he got out of arrest was calling a
flight
service and they verified to the locals that he was an "Authorized" flight
that was forced down.
If this is true, someone is getting trigger happy and I fear that
there
may be a "Serious" incident with a "Suspected" terrorist soon. If anyone
can
substantiate this I would appreciate it.
