Senator;
Please take an active interest in rescinding the current VFR flight
restrictions. They will (if it is not too late already) cripple and
terminate a very fragile industry that is more important to our nation
that may be realized. I am referring to the pilot training and mechanic
training required to keep all of our aircraft flying.
The basic flight training conducted in VFR conditions is the foundation to
our aviation industry. In order to fly commercially, one must start as a
student and obtain many hours before being able to work ones way up the
pilot ladder. If this restriction on VFR flight is not lifted immediately,
we will have greatly aided the terrorist goal by affecting the aviation
community permanently. Without the student starts and gradual increase in
experience, there will be no pilot pool to fill the airline and part 135
needs. (except for the military experienced pilots)
Flight schools and Fixed base operators are closing daily. Their aircraft
are now for sale (if they are worth buying anymore due to the possibility
that no one will be able to fly them). Maintenance shops cannot deliver
completed work, or have new work arrive due to the flight restrictions. I
hear of no government effort to shore up this portion of the aircraft
industry.
To let a few advisors keep the lid on VFR flight is asinine. I spent my
last eight years in the Navy working in Crystal City, with a very high
security clearance, so I know how the system works (or is not working
properly in this case)

Coupers; I may be a day or two late and several dollars short, but I
have sent the above request to my senators and the president. I know we
are all united in trying to do the right thing, and many wise words have
crossed this list. I can only hope that my small cry will help the effort.
