...AS GA IS LEFT HANGING...
Much of general aviation, meanwhile, has been on the ground for over a
week, suffering silently and seemingly alone, ignored by the mainstream
media. A check around the country confirms what all GA pilots feel in
their guts to be true: Aviation businesses and the people who run them
and are employed by them are hurting.

...AND NATA CALLS FOR A GA BAILOUT
U.S. airlines are clamoring for $24 billion from the government to help
them cope. The National Air Transportation Association (NATA) says GA
businesses have been hurt, too, and should also be compensated. A
survey sent out Monday to their 2,000 members showed FBOs, aircraft
repair shops, on-demand charter services and fractional jet businesses
have been badly affected. "We estimate tens of millions in lost revenue
and lost business," said NATA's Clif Stroud. Next Tuesday, September
25, NATA president Jim Coyne will go before Congress and ask the
lawmakers to help general aviation in the same way it is helping the
airlines ... with a monetary bailout.

THE NEW NORMAL: Over the last week, the FAA home page began posting
frequent updates with dates and times, to establish some sort of clarity
in what was otherwise a confusing mess of press releases, NOTAMs and
miscues. Interpretations of the new and ever-changing rules seem to
vary as much with geography as with necessity. Meanwhile, as the
airlines hope for a multibillion-dollar bailout, massive layoffs are
already underway -- 12,000 from Continental, 20,000 each at United and
American, 30,000 from Boeing, and more. Southwest, at least, has said
it will not cut flights or staff. And the FAA is actively recruiting
air marshals.
