The only problem witth the STS handheld, is that did not include an ignition noise blanking circuit. Otherwise, it works great. Mine is suitable for ~25 miles of so, if I'm not down behind a mountain. With it's short battery life, you're likely to want to wire in a 12 v supply, leaving he batttery supply attached. This keeps the battery charged and then acts as a backup in case of A/C electrical failure... I recently purchased a 1400 mhr battery for mine...
