I do agree with your statement above but the reasonable solution is simply
to go back to just the way things were. The risk from General Aviation is
no greater today than it was last year. We fly small aircraft with low
mass
and fuel loads and do not make enough of a bang to be of real concern.
This
is all "Chicken Little" junk and it needs to be dealt with as such. Real
good people are having their lives ruined by people who do not accept that
in war we have some casualties. We did not pick this war but it is here
and
we can all sit at home and go broke like the Afghanis have done or we can
continue our lives the way we chose to live them and accept some small
number of casualties. Before you all get all excited by that concept we do
this every day!! Yes the death toll on our highways is a prime example. We
kill thousands every year and that is accepted as the price of being able
to drive where and when we want. I see flying as no different. Yes some
bad
people drive drunk and kill innocent people and we do only small things
about that because we understand that we can not stop every person who
will
drive drunk. We try to stop it with education and some enforcement but in
the end it is accepted as the price of the freedom.

In aviation we lose people every year and we try hard to reduce the number
but we will continue to lose many every year. If we stop some nut from
using a general aviation aircraft with punitive flight restrictions they
will just use a Ryder truck or find an inventive way to use a small boat.
If they are willing to trade their life for some of ours they can not be
stopped as a practical mater. We can be cooperative and try to make sure
that we do not encourage the use of General Aviation aircraft by being
vigilant in the way we run our airports and flying schools but in the end
if they are determined they can make a mess.

Let us all try to accept some common sense approach to the problem and see
to it that "We the People" win this war by continuing to live our lives
the
way we have for the last several years and add the will to stamp out the
territories where ever they are. This way we win and will also have
security again, such that we can.

Best regards,
Vern
