Saturday Oct 6th-

Working in the morning got me off to a late start.
Wheels up at 12:30 I brought an extra flannel and a jacket.
Winds were variable but turbulence was moderate. We climbed to 7500' in
search of calm air and found little. After an hour I was around Class B
and
heading North. Climbing again, smooth air was finally found at 9500'.

I used carb heat ounce and noticed I had gradually been "pulling" more
cabin
heat. A glance at my oil temp showed 145 degrees. When I looked at OAT
it
read 10F! What a change from the 60 degree weather I left in Mankato.

30nm from Sky Harbor I ran into light snow and wondered how accurate that
weather report had been. Weather shock really hit when I slid open the
canopy to gas up and felt the "Northern Phenomena" up close and personal.
It was so cold I couldn't bring myself to walk the beach. After a nice
talk
with the mechanic of two Beech 18's (ON FLOATS)! and a quick tape job to
the
oil cooler inlet we were off. Concerned about the clouds moving in,
changed
the plan to head back South.

The trip back saw beautiful golden leaves around pines and lakes. The
yellow colors mixed in with spots of orange made for a spectacle not soon
forgotten. An overcast made it darker than usual and by the time I hit
Minneapolis most of the trees had slowly changed back into green..
Hhhmmmm,
maybe there will be another site-seeing flight soon..

Anthony,

Please describe your flight. I love fall and of course I love flying.
What a combination.

Thanks,
