I wrote all three of my people in Congress. I have my e-mail address on
all
my correspondence. I got this back via e-mail from Sen. Cantrell.
I didn't vote for her last election. I will vote for her the next one
however.

Dear Mr. Anton:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the continued restriction on general
aviation flights within "Class B" air space as a result of the terrorist
attacks on September 11, 2001. I appreciate your input on this matter.

As you know, these new rules were established to reduce threats to our
nation's airports, at least until long-term procedures can be developed to
ensure the safety of those areas. Unfortunately, the restriction on Class
B airspace is impacting small businesses throughout the state of
Washington.

While I share the concerns of the Department of Transportation, the
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the national security agencies
in seeking to protect such areas from further acts of terrorism, I am
troubled by reports of apparent inconsistencies in the application of the
new rules to various types of general aviation flights. Whereas flight
schools are currently allowed to operate in this airspace, other general
aviation flights are still banned.

I have contacted Jane Garvey, Administrator of the FAA, urging that she
work toward resolving the inconsistencies in the permitted use of Class B
airspace. I believe that efforts must be made to quickly resolve any
safety concerns remaining about such flights.

In addition, I have cosponsored the American Small Business Emergency
Relief and Recovery Act of 2001, S. 1499, a bill to provide assistance to
small businesses adversely impacted by the terrorist attacks. The bill
will allow those small businesses not physically damaged or destroyed, but
directly or indirectly affected because they are a supplier, service
provider or complementary industry to any affected industry, to be
eligible for 7(a) Guaranteed Business Loans. Some of the provisions of
these loans include reduced interest rates, easier standards for loan
approval, and the option of requesting a one-year deferral of the payments
on the principal so that businesses only have to make payments on the
monthly interest due.

Again, thank you for contacting me. For information on how to volunteer
or donate your time, resources, or blood, please view my website at

Sincerely,

Maria Cantwell
United States Senator
