Dear All Coupers, Thanks for your support & actions regarding the future of College Park Airport. Should our survival turn into a political food fight, we'll need wide support from the flying community. From my perspective, here's an update on recent events: News of CGS's pending demise seemed to get traction because of the text banner being run on CNN yesterday. I had just finished a studio interview with CNN Saturday morning with no discussion of CGS closing, so we're puzzeled as to why this banner ran all day. My FAA sources have assured me it did not come from them. Last week I had the opportunity to sit down with three FAA Associate Administrators (Security, Airspace & Airports)at their digs in downtown DC. My first question to them dealt with rumors that the small airports surrounding Washington were going to be closed down for security reasons. Individually & collectively, they assured me that the FAA had no intention of closing any public use airport in the Washington area, and it was their intention to get them open and running ASAP, consistent with national security issues. For right now, I'm going to hang my hat on their assurances. I'm also going to keep my powder dry........... As FACTS of CGS's future become available, I'll pass them along to the Coupers.....you're all part of our extended community.
