Thanks to the organizational efforts of MA wing leader Art,
5 Coupers found their way to North Adams, MA this last
Saturday to admire each others' Ercoupes and to enjoy
the best that the North Adams Stop-N-Shop had to offer.

It was a dicey day weather-wise, but at 10AM it became
clear that I could make it up there. Mad dash to the airport,
quick pre-flight and fuel-up and I was off.

Gee, but the hills of upstate New York and Massachusetts
are pretty in the fall. We caught the colors just so.

North Adams is an interesting venue, the airport being obstructed
from the South by a great big mountain. No, a really big mountain.
Fly up any of the four connecting valleys and there you be.

Once there, you witness what looks like a 1955-vintage government
grant airport, designed with some mad vision of connecting Boston
to the hill country. It has way more runway than you'd expect in
such a place. There is even a disused 'terminal' the architecture
of which is best described as 'Anaheim Tomorrowland Chic.'

The dire weather predictions caught me on the way home. I went
to 8500' intending to put brain in neutral and enjoy a smooth ride.
No such look. 4500 scattered went to 4500 broken at the Hudson.
The Hudson was still an out, being clear. I jumped through
one of the last holes just South of SWF and found soupy smoggy
haze underneath. But over familiar territory with lots of alternates,
so pressed on and found it ended just 20 miles from home, where
it gave way to just 3500 overcast.

350 miles on the day was my longest ride in '387 since adopting
her in June. About enough in a 'Coupe, especially when the last bit
was MVFR. Any more might seem like work.

Art has been faithfully putting together fly-outs on a monthly basis
for the few months. He deserves lots of kudos for the efforts.
