Electrically powered coupes may be just around the corner!
Technolgy has developed a near 0 resistance wire. This enables a very
small wire to carry large amounts of electricity. This means that the
extension cord for an electric plane is now practical! A reel of wire
could be mounted either under the plane with the wire plugged into any
110 V outlet on the ground, or the reel on the ground, with only the
wire going to the plane. The latter would save on the gross weight.
Granted, this would be only for local flights, training etc. As an
electric motor would be smaller than the old gas guzzling Continental,
there will be room up front for a couple of large batteries.These will
of course be charged in flight by solar panels on the upper surfaces of
the wings and tail. This will allow flights of some considerable
distance on clear days. Also as a standby, there will be 20 to 30 D
cell, rechargable flashlight batteries.If your pocket book allows,
technology,using satellite and inter spatial data bases,let's you hook
into the military system of using the power of black holes as a hugh
power scorce! Updating your coupe to use this advanced technology would
involve installing an expensive receiver antenna in the appropriate
places in the wings and tail feathers. A good reason for the high cost
of the anntena is the material used, which is a special combination of
titainium, unobtainium and saint elmo's charged particulum. Also you
will have to take your proposal to the FAA . Explain it to them in
detail and watch the suprised look on their faces. Another advantage to
all these conversions is that the old fuel tanks can now become luggage
compartments. The nose tank can also have a hatch put in it to hold a
good sized battery charger, fuses and electrical tape. When old Fred
designed the coupe I bet he never dreamed we'ed come up with an S.T.C.
like this. By the way I recently heard another couper is working on a
much neglected power scorce, static electricity! This may only be a
flash in the pan. If any one else has any other good solid posative
electrical ideas grounded in fact, let us all in on your secrets.
