Hi All
Thank you to everyone who wishes me well and the offers of help, this is
why Ercoupe people are special.
Now the container is on its way it gives me a couple of weeks to gather my
forces so that everything will go smoothly. When I brought my Mooney Cadet
out to Virginia in 1995 I had the help of a good friend which I found
invaluable. At Puyallup I had a pal from way back, he lived here in
England and emigrated in the 1960's eventually ending up with Boeing as a
designer and engineer and worked on design of the 737, 757 and 767
airplanes. He is now retired and he shares a private hangar at Puyallup
where he keeps the airplane he designed and built himself, he calls it the
"Barracuda" all wood with a big engine.
He was very helpful in 1995 when I hangared with him for a few weeks after
I flew in from Kalispell after the annual convention, I had a fuel leak
from the fitting under the fuselage fuel tank and it took a while to get
it fixed, I remember someone at Kalispell saying I would have to remove
the tank to fix it, he was right, I had wanted to avoid this as I had
removed the tank many years back when I had an Alon A2 and I was fortunate
to be put in touch with an engineer who did the job for me.
The problem is.....I cannot contact either the engineer who did the tank
work for me, nor can I raise my English pal, both have gone to ground.
Solution, and time is running out, is to use an FBO who will do the job of
putting the Aircoupe back together for me. As you will all understand one
needs "Facilities", Tools, Jacks, Premises and Know How. There are a
number of companies at Puyallup, but which one do I choose? Here I need
help from someone local to point me in the right direction to a company
who is capable (and sensible).
In Virginia in 1995 I did the job myself with the help of two pals, it was
also in June so the weather was kind to us and most work was done outside
and using the tools of my pal there. I wanted a "mod" done to the brake
lines at the bottom of the main legs, the Cadet had the spring steel legs
and I wanted to introduce a flexible pipe at the entry to the brake unit
which the local FBO A.I. carried out, Mary Petet will know this as she now
owns my Cadet. However, I digress.
As I am unable to contact my pal or the engineer I need to choose a
company at Puyallup as I am now comitted to bringing it there.
It is my intention to come out on 15th January, I usually tumble into a
Motel near Seattle Airport and hit the sack as my clock says midnight even
though it is only 4 pm your time, eight hours difference leaves me very
tired.
I rent a car and early next day I will set off to Puyallup to sort the job
out in choosing a company. Then when that is done I will get over to
Tacoma to do battle with the Customs people and get the release of the
container. I don't know whether I am going to have problems at this point
with the obvious security now applied after 11th September attrocity. Hope
not.
So there's my plan, and as it is always sensible to try to meet problems
before they arise, that is what I am doing right now. "Happy Holiday" ? I
expect to wake up in the middle of the night trying to solve the problems
which have not yet arisen. Hope I'm wrong and it all goes easily. is life
like that ?
So there's my thoughts this early morning, 6 am here as I can't sleep,
just had to put them down in print, I am sure you Ercoupe men out west
will give me your help and suggestions, I am looking forward to your help
and the trip, maybe even sunshine after the rain in January, "The sun
shines on the rightuous" I remember my mother saying, she was a bit of an
old "Sage" in her later years.
I wish you all Happiness over the Holidays.
Dave Vernon
