Hi Nancy, The kiddie seat was actually a factory option on the Alon. I believe that someone has drafted a plan for the mod, but I can't remember who. It really isn't a very useful seat -- you can only put 75 pounds back there, and it's right on the floor so it wouldn't be especially comfortable, I imagine -- but it does make for a cute baggage compartment. Lots of folks do an extended baggage area. Have you joined the owners' club yet? Also, if you haven't already, check out www.ercoupe.net -- there's a link to the mailing list there.
