Remember a while back I asked about an oil cap gasket? Well I found one. I also found the reason why my filler always seemed to drool oil. Now I suspect it was doing more than drooling with the engine running. No wonder the breather never seemed to exhale much.
You see, on an Ercoupe you can use a C-Series oil cap gasket as a fuel cap gasket. Someone seems to have extrapolated that to mean that the reverse is true. Wrong. The gas cap gasket has the same size hole, but is considerably smaller in diameter. In fact it won't actually physically contact the oil filler neck with the cap on. I guess I should be grateful the damned thing didn't fall down the hole and gum up the works. Cripes!
