Yeah, I've done that.
I first got into flying in partnership with my brother. He had a newly
coined A&P from Portland Community, and was raring to go. I kinda got
involved from the ground up - take out inspection panels, like. Now, I'm
no whiz, but I could figure out the sharp end of the screw driver.
So after several years of working on the Cessna 150, I went between
planes.
Then bought a `coupe. Most of the stuff is the same - except for the
cloth
work. You still have to look it over REAL GOOD ("sags" and all) before
flying, and fix anything you find BEFORE YOU GO! Like the attachment for
the extra support for the gascolator, as I did a while back.
Annuals are a bone of contention because they have to be done, by
skilled
persons. Problems occur when "something comes up," and it costs "more
than
it should." All any body has is their time, and they should be paid
fairly
for it. The pilot has not got all that much time either, with a job,
family
and all. It should go without saying that maintaining a plane takes lots
of
time! And if I had enough of it, I'd go to Portland Community, like my
brother did.
So what can this list do? We should discuss the proposals. And share
information on who is Er/Aircoupe/Alon/Mooney qualified in so far as the
pecularities of our beloved airplanes. And we the pilots should
PARTICIPATE
in the maintenance there of. I'm all for it, Ed & Roy.
