I am not posting an apology, Mike! The reason some coupes are in
fair-poor shape is that some people are too cheap to spend the money
(labor+parts) to get them fixed right. It is not because some mechanic
doesn't know how to do it. The idea that these folks think a mechanic
should have additional training to work on an Ercoupe is idiotic. I do
wish failure on their proposal. I doubt that anybody with a lick of sense
would pay any attention to such a dumb proposal. They should educate
themselves about A&Ps and the roughly 600 hours general, and 700 for each
rating they spent getting a license. Mechanics know when they smell
something amiss in an airplane, but owners may not be able to afford the
fix. It is too bad that these people can't just lobby the FAA to give us
true owner maintenance and let people make their own mistakes. Remember
that an owner maintained plane cannot be used commercially and will
probably require a warning on the panel, which should include the words
"risk of death" in my opinion. They are going to turn this into a mess and
I would like to know who appointed a couple of this list's elitists as the
folks to write up a proposal for us Ercoupe pilots. Glen Ward

Subject: [COUPERS] PURE CRAP ???
Glen,
Slow down a minute. This is also a forum for ideas. Some good and some
not so. Type specific maintenance may indeed save lives. It seems to
me
that a certain A & P has used this list daily, to address his
concerns. If our
coupes had always been maintained by those who are familiar with them,
they would have been in better shape when we purchased them. AND if we
could really trust our own existing A & P skills, we wouldn't have
bought a
piece of PURE CRAP to begin with. Although additional education can be
an
beneficial, it isn't always necessary. However in this case it might
be. Attacking
those who support it, is pointless. So is wishing failure on them.
Post your apology while you can still salvage some dignity.
