First, you shouldn't think that 70MPH is 'a little hot.' Actually, it's about the bottom of the range, and too damn slow in a D model. Your airspeed indicator may vary, but learn to *look* outside and detect sink because at that speed you are very close to a fast ride down. This isn't a 172, with kite-like wings and flaps. Also, if you can get ahold of the original owner's manual (not the POH) there is a good discussion. Univair and Skyport both have them. Only problem there is that *their* speeds are really too slow for reality.
