If the radio volume doesn't affect the "static" but the intercom volume
does, then your problem is most likely related to a loose connection
between the intercom and either the radio or the headsets. A loose
ground wire will often produce the effect you describe because the
ground is no longer being made at the place it is supposed to be (a
common point along with the radio and other electronics).

You didn't say whether you have this problem when the engine isn't
running, but you just wiggle and pound the electronics.

If the radio doesn't have the problem WHILE A STATION IS BEING RECEIVED,
then your generator is probably OK.

I've developed a static that is being picked up through my headset and
intercom. It's static that it's volume isn't enhanced at all by adjusting
the radio but can be made louder adjusting the intercom (not the
radio)>I'm thinking it's off the generator
> being dirty brushes or something like that it's not a steady tone that
changes with RPM it's a staticty set of changing tone that are RPM related
to some extent .How can I test this, and I have those filters inline
(capacitors ?) could they be bad ?The radio didn't do this all the time
just every now and then. Now it's alot more, Can I spray the brushes or
something to se if that helps or what also how can I test to see if the
filters are the culprit.I know I should go to the shop but this really
isn't
hat bad and I'd rather spend the Money on something more significant
should it arise. It's more of an annoyance than a problem sinc the radio
works fine and the intercom works fine .I'm picking up R F from something.
