Glen, If the stacks or any part of the engine is hitting anything, the first thing to look for is sagging engine mount rubbers. If the engine is sagging it can cause the stacks to hit the cowling, the carb air box to hit the nose bowl mounting ring, etc. As far as the bottom cowling wearing on the firewall crimps goes, my Alon has some fairly thick felt glued to the inside of the bottom cowling to keep it from rubbing on the fuselage and firewall. This felt is probably a good 1/4 inch thick. As far as I know, the bottom cowling only attaches to the lower "cowl mount longerons" and to the nose bowl mounting ring. I don't think that the lower cowling is supposed to be attached to the bottom of the fuselag in any way. Wayne DelRossi Alon N5618F GYH Greenville SC
