Your hypothetical situation calls for a lot of individual, personal values to be examined before giving any advice. Mine is this: I'm not instrument rated and don't want nor need a lot of gizmos on the panel. I highly value originality in antique/classic airplanes. Ercoupes should be as light and as simple as possible, just like they were designed to be. *IF* both planes are corrosion free in the wing spar caps and center section front spar and *IF* both planes have good compression and leak down testing numbers and *IF* both planes have normal oil consumption rates I would personally go for the second Ercoupe.
