You can get the plexi drill bits at Home Depot and the like.  Even corner
hardware stores have these nowadays.  If you're good with the grinder you
can make your own by sharpening them to a steep angle, say about 30
degrees.
One last way to try is to position the bit, then run the drill motor
backwards for a few revolutions, scoring the hole pattern completely.
Whatever method, go slow and easy (don't push hard) and you'll be okay.
