This detector was tested by the guys at avweb.com and found to be 
effective.

Everyone should also be aware that the chemical 'spot' detectors have now
been improved so that they work better and last a lot longer. While the
old
90-day ones are still around, the newer, better ones are available from 
Aircraft Spruce.

The fact that you can smell your 'Coupe warming up and you can smell 
as any oil burns off the manifold should tell you that flying with the
canopy
at least cracked is a real good idea. The firewall is far from a 'wall'
and
a lot
of the air that gets in the cabin has passed through the engine
compartment.
