Don,
I use two methods...
first, when it drops below 40 deg., I use one of the magnet style
heaters that sticks to the oil sump. Plug it in and leave it ( remember to
disconnect before flight unless you have a loooong extension cord... you
never know what someone will try). I know that the risk of fire occurs
anytime you walk away and leave something on, but it's a helluva lot
better
than the old light bulb trick.
second, I built a pre heater, looks just like the "dragon" style
heater, but uses simple ducting bought at a hardware store and a space
heater. I can fire up the pre-heater and 10 mins later she'll fire off
like
the middle of summer. It doesn't get below 25 deg F here very often.
