About a month ago with some great help I rebuilt the coupes main shocks and added the 7/16 inch spacer, below is a good reason to do this.

FAA accdent report text.

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAD BEEN ON A LOCAL, PERSONAL FLIGHT. HE RETURNED TO THE AIRPORT AND LANDED ON THE NORTHEAST RUNWAY. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, AFTER HE HAD MADE A SMOOTH TWO-POINT LANDING, A GUST OF WIND PICKED UP THE AIRPLANE AND DROPPED IT HARD ON THE RUNWAY. AN FAA INSPECTOR REPORTED THAT THE PILOT STATED TO HIM THAT HE LANDED HARD, BOUNCED, AND HIT AGAIN ON THE NOSE GEAR. THE CLOSEST WEATHER REPORTING FACILITY WAS 10 MILES EAST AND REPORTED THE WINDS AS 290 DEGREES AT 13 KNOTS, WHICH RESULTED IN A 13-KNOT CROSSWIND.

A properly rigged Ercoupe should not do this.  The Ercoupe is by design able to safely land at criuse speed and NOT baloon.
Before "raising the tail" My coupe would try to fly at 60mph, now I have been 100 mph with no attempt to lift off.  Also while landing in a 20-25 knot cross wind I have had the laging wing rais quite a bit on landing.  I have tried it since the rebuild and the wing did not lift.  Rebuilding was not hard and was done of under $200.00 I would recommend it for all "Tail Draging" coupes.
