The "Historic Aviation" catalog for winter 2000 just arrived.

Fred Weick's autobiography is listed for half the original price. I
paid ~$42 a few years ago and now it's on sale for $19.95. If you are
a Couper who reads books, this is a very interesting one.

The book started as a series of audio cassettes Fred recorded for his
children. They saved the tapes and it became the foundation of the
book. Together with a writer named Hansen, Fred finished the 556 page
book.

Remember, it's not all about Coupes. It's about Fred's career which
lasted from the '20s into the '60s. He was a move and shaker in (among
other): Stall/spin research, propeller design, tricycle landing
gears, the Coupe's design as a safe plane, designing the new standard
for Ag planes, and the Piper Cherokee and its follow on models.
Coupes and their history are covered pretty well, too.

This book is not exciting reading. It's interesting. But I think,
IMHO, that any long term Coupers will enjoy the book and learn a lot
about their planes and the middle history of aviation.
