To those thinking of using a Marvel Sheibler (sp.?) carb by replacing the Stromberg that came on their Ercoupes: Several years ago, the cost to overhaul, rebuild, whatever, for the Marvel was $400+, Cost to overhaul the Stromberg, $100. I had my Stromberg done. Delfin needle and all. The Marvel has an accelerator pump in it I believe, the Stromberg doesn't. This is the reason you have to open throttle on the Stromberg more slowly, especially on final approach. To shove the throttle open fast can result in silence. I ease mine open, giving it a chance to catch up. Also, I use my fuel shut off valve when parked due to fuel draining out of the carb sometimes. That is probably just a characteristic, and the reason they put a shut off valve on it in the first place. Don't fix it if it ain't broke. The Stromberg is simpler. Like Henry David Thoreau said, ". . . .simplify, simplify, simplify."
