Reply to Sean Fendt: Having read Coupe Capers since the early eighties, and being more than a little interested in all things Ercoupe, I will put my 2 cents worth in regarding your quesitions as you consider the purchase of an Ercoupe for home base elevations of 5,500 feet.
I read a letter to Coupe Capers from an owner who says that by merely installing a Take off/climb/high altitude prop on his C75/85 it will and did effectlively remedy the high altitude situation. He said it was the most obvious and least expensive solution to the high altitude operation of his Ercoupe and that his was performing very satisfactorily at a 5,500 foot elevation airport with a McCauley 7148 prop. He said you don't need the trouble and expense of an 0-200 conversion which would net you little more if anything in the way of climb performance. This assumes that your engine is not "tired" and has good compression, etc. A friend of mine bought an 0-200 powered Ercoupe from someone out in the northwest who had repowered his coupe for high elevation operations. His coupe is correctly done, but won't climb as good as our (there are 3 of us coupe owners here) 75/85 hp powered coupes. Strong C75/85 and climb prop should be satisfactory for you. Keep it light. Fabric wings, etc. It should be fine. Skipper Barfield 99398 ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
