Possibly because he hadn't thought about the advantages of a double
rudder and the 'interconnections' to make it a two axis system yet???

I wasn't there so of course I'm only guessing. I never had the
chance
to meet "Mr. Ercoupe". I wish he was still with us, it would be nice to
meet him and just sit down and "chat" with him about our favorite bird.
We may never know all the "why's" about the Ercoupe basics. (I doubt if
many of us would really understand it all even if he did tell us.)
