Now, I've read all the mail up to now.
Here is what I've been told. And Fred was there at the time. The C
models
had a 74" 'wood prop. The gear was drop to where the wheel was out of the
prop wash. The fairing was placed on the scissors looking for less drag.{
Fully extend strut/fairing.} OK, any questions?
Now along came metal props 71." And Alum scissors. Fairing dropped.
Knowing that the wheel hanging down caused more drag. {Install cable wheel
still out of prop wash. Less drag.}
Has anybody been told to take off their cable? Or questioned about it?
Have you ever heard of anybody bending a motor mount on a X-wind landing
Sod
or paved?
Your comparing a time when not many gave a Sh** about 337s or STC's. As
my
brother said the other day. The new people coming on line today don't know
jack about our airplanes what was on or should be on Ercoupes.
I've seen approx. 10 Ercoupes with bent nose gears. To a one all were
caused by Stalls or to high a sink rate. Left wing low. Nose gear bent
back
to the left. { All }
When I totaled 99371 It was just like the rest. I am not a great pilot.
With all that was happening I lost track of my speed. At 15-20 foot I was
at
60 no speed and dropping like a rock. Try to flair but that was the wrong
thing to do. I was trying for a spot landing on the ridge. An on the
forward
side of the knoll. You get the picture.
The damage was Nose gear back to the left, wing left tip up and to the
back.
The point I'm trying to make is that the cable will not help you not
bend
the mount. To bend the mount you need more than little slipping and
sliding.
And when your in that fix, your in deep.
And that's my input for whatever good it is. Yours, Warren H.
