Exceptional Idea! When the Golden Log Book gets to the Dallas, TX area I'd love to be a part of it's journey... Specifically McKinney, TX (TKI). If there's a list please put me on it.
I've enjoyed reading about replacing the standard wing tanks with new/larger ones but, does anyone have any experience in repairing the existing 9 gallon tanks? I'm very interested in any additional tank repair information the group may have. Over the past 6 to 12 months I've began to notice some staining around three or four rivets on both wing tanks of my 66 Alon. By the way, my friends and my wife refer to my plane as "The Red Headed Mistress." Red paint and a lot of time spent with her rather than at home earned her her designation. Anyway, there's no dripping just stains and only on the top tank rivets, closer to the wing root. This condition is only apparent when she's filled to the gills with av gas and resting in her hanger for a few days. Moo gas has no die and doesn't show staining. I'll probably try to pull the tanks off myself (appropriately supervised, naturally) and have them repaired and repainted. I'm sure some of you may have seen this or have the same problem and I'd appreciate your experienced estimate on how much it's going to set me back to have the tanks properly repaired. I've spent a fair amount on the little Red Head before and just cause she's a little teary in the tanks doesn't mean I'm not going to make things right for her. -- Have a good one!
