Prior to S/N 812, the MLG  "Lipped" seals were of natural  rubber, and 
required a vegatable oil fluid, such as brake fluid. After s/n 812, the
seals 
were "o" rings and used petroleum "red" hydraulic fluid...and also the
brake 
system now utilizes red hydraulic fluid.

Worn cylinders can be refitted with the older seals, and work very well, I
am 
told; but I think that the vegatable oil based fluids then have to be
used. 
Perhaps some new seals are compatable with petroleum based fluids.
