Bob's probably right. The nose wheel will come down on it's own, if you let it do so. Taking the weight off the mains probably ain't a good idea, as it gives you a tail-dragger in reverse.
My point is that it is kind of necessary to lose the practice of holding the nose wheel off until you have the 'stick' in your lap, else you won't be taking any advantage of the negative incidence of the wing in the 'crusing down the road' position.
