Spins were not required when I got my ticket, but I insisted on the
experience. I too had trouble equating a spin at altitude with a spin in
the pattern, but the confidence I gained from practicing spins was
beneficial. Even though I am now a coupe driver, and haven't done any
spins
for over 20 years, I would like to do some unusual atitude training by
learning some basic aerobatics (Not in the Coupe). Consider it equivilant

to recurrent training in high performance planes. I think it would be
easy
to get too complacent flying the same plane all the time; and aerobatics
(in
the proper plane) would certainly rejuvinate the senses occasionally. I
think students should have some intensive atitude training; call it spin
training or not, I think students are missing out.
