Greetings. Thursday and Friday before the Labor Day weekend, I was able to take my Ercoupe to work. I drove to Pearson Airpark in Vancouver, fired up 2129H and flew to Hillsboro. I then caught a bus to the shop. The biggest hang up was waiting for the bus. They come every half hour, and the first day I got out right after he'd come by. If I was able to fly in regularly, I would get a "beater" bicycle to chain to the airport fence. Then I could ride the 4 or 5 miles to the office. The next hang up was the radio. Hand helds are great, but mine seems to not receive too well when I am in the air. It gets static, and cuts out. I've been wondering if it is in the antenna some where. When I call from the ground, Tower hears me fine and I hear them. In "The Ercoupe," by Thomas (p. 81), there is a picture of Fred Weick. The caption says he commuted by `coupe between his home and his office at Texas A & M. So I will not take credit for the idea. I may not be able to do this again. I usually work in Vancouver, rather than the home office. And the weather here is `ticularly crummy. But the two trips will be a fond memory always.
