My 415-C has the narrow trim tab which came stock on this model. I've
seen wider trim tabs but, those may have been on models other than the
415-C. Often I did not check or ask what model I was looking at; C, D,
C-D or whatever.

The trim tab authority on my 415-C with the stock trim tab is quite
adequate and I have never desired a "more effective" trim tab. Check to
see what model your Ercoupe is and what trim tab is called for on your
model.

Service the long trim tab cable, (I had to change mine once), and check
it for freedom of movement, (full range), and for security. If is is old
or rusty, not only can it not give you enough trim but it can break and
cause some problems that you don't want.

There are two little spings on the trim tab hinge which are there in case
the cable breaks. If the cable breaks, they hold the trim tab all the
way up, or down, to keep the trim tab from fluttering and thus the
elevator from fluttering. If the elevator trim tab cable breaks and your
elevator flutters, I've been told that the pilot must fly slow to stop
the fluttering and get to the nearest airport and land. Moral of the
story is check the condition of the two little springs on your trim tab
hinge and if they are rusty and or broken, replace them now to prevent
elevator flutter in case your trim tab cable breaks.
