Greg: Don't think anyone answered your questions directly. So here goes!! I've tried the wheel back technique, and it works!! The coupe steers well with the nose wheel until it lifts off, about 50. (the nose gets very light at 45) And theres plenty of rudder control. As far as the fan quitting on downwind? We'll have to assume you were at pattern altitude at the time, and in the proper downwind position. If a cool head is kept, coming up short shouldn't be a factor. Even if you had a short strip of 1200', you should be able to adjust your approach to touch down just before mid-field. surely 6-700 ft. is enough to roll out safely, even if you did a relatively high speed flair. (which is what I would do considering that I had no "power adjustment" available.) Doug
