Jim, I bought my coupe without the Airworthiness certificate. I was also
missing the logbook for the first ten years, 1946-1956. I sent to the FAA
in Colorado for the records of my coupe as they contained the original
certification. I took these with the logbooks I did have to the local
FSDO
office. They prepared (actually, I typed it out because the FSDO guy had
a
cast on his hand) a new Certificate. It has the same number as the
original
but is prefaced with a 'R' to signify replacement., No cost. If I had the
orginal logbook I would not have had to send to Colorado for the records.
