*****And the third one was on the way home from Arlington Saturday
morning. I heard it on the car radio (on a Seattle station, KIRO I
think) as I was also on my way home from Arlington. Not many details but
they said that the family (3) was on their way home from Arlington
Airshow and a man in his 70's (74 I think) was in the back seat and was
killed. The man and woman in the front seat were in the Hospital (didn't
say where) in serious and critical condition but alive. They didn't say
what the aircraft was, or the cause, but of course they mentioned
Arlington Airshow again and recapped the other two saying that there had
now been 3 fatal crashes in the past 4 days pertaining to Arlington.
I heard about the other two when I arrived there Friday, but I
didn't
hear that there were powerlines involved. (I just had to be there for
the Ercoupe Fanciers Group 'EFG' Banquet Friday night. It was worth the
long drive and missed sleep, there must have been about two dozen people
at the banquet. The food was great and the service was better, that
waitress we had was a real party person! I'll bet she made some REALLY
GOOD tips that night! Watch the Oregon webpage for Percy's report.
He'll post a notice here when he gets home and gets it up and running.)
I'm already thinking about next year!!!
I heard that the 2nd crash (the R-6A) pulled up very steeply and
suffered engine failure (possibly fuel starvation on low tanks caused by
angle of attack?) I wasn't there yet, that's just something I heard on
Friday, I talked to some people who saw it happen and they said it
sounded like the engine quit. Don't know which version to believe until
it comes out in an 'official' publication such as "Aircraft Safety" or a
similar pub....
No matter which the true story is, it's a shame that it happened.
