The generator is connected to the engine accessory drive through a rubber coupling with keys on it. Last annual I had my mechanic remove my generator and the coupling was rock hard and broke into several peices when it was no longer constrained. We replaced the coupling. I am very glad Coupe Capers suggested checking it since I do not think the generator had been off since I bought the plane in 1990.
