It seems that the recent article on the Delcom Radio has created more
questions than answers! I would like to make a few comments regarding this
little radio. First of all the Delcom is a fully approved and FCC
certified
for aircraft use. It is not approved at this time, for a permanent in dash
mounting (this is the same rule that applies to most hand held GPS units).
The
radio only weighs 17 ounces with the battery eliminator, around 20 with
the
NiCad battery and it measures 8" deep.

The radio was developed for ultra lites and was designed to filter out
ignition noise from unshielded ignitions. For those that know a little
about
radios it has two cyristal filters and one ceramic filter and the
transmitter
is rated at 4.8 watts.

I have had this radio installed in my KR-2 for over a month and I would
put it
up against ANY aircraft radio. The noise suppression is far better than
most
high buck radios. The receiver has a crisp audio that is very easy to
understand in a high noise environment. The squelch is one of the best
that I
have ever seen at full squelch all you loose is any noise that you wanted
to
eliminate...the signals still punch right through! The transmitter
although
low power seems to be heard by ground stations without any problem. I can
reliably talk to ATC at distances of 70 miles...maybe better than that but
that is the furthest distance that I have used to date. Reception 100 plus
miles loud and clear. This filter circuit really works well!

I am so impressed that I haven taken a dealership. The reason for this was
so
that I could sell these radios to Club Members at lower prices than the
lowest
price that you will see advertised, in fact I can't even tell you the
price.
You will have to call to get this very low CLUB PRICE.

If you want more info on the Delcom see them at their web site DELC.COM.

Hope this answers the many questions that I have received.
